Abstract
Heavy metals pollution of surface soils due to industrialization and urbanization has become a serious concern in many developing countries. The extent of pollution with heavy metals may vary according to the activity located in the region. For this purpose five sources were examined with four cities in east Delta-Egypt (Aga, Sandoob, Talkha and the last one is Damiatte)  to evaluate contamination with heavy metals resulting from the different sources of pollution (irrigation industrial, sewage, agricultural irrigation and car smoking fumes near roads). Soil samples were randomly collected from each site on depths (0-15 cm) and (15-30 cm) by using auger and  were analyzed   to assess  the concentration of  heavy metals (Cu, Cd, Ni and Pb) in those soils to compare between different locations. The results showed wide variation in concentration of studied heavy metals in soils as affected by activates in the areas and whenever, in the region has high activity led to increase the amount of heavy metals release in the environment.  These values are all down the maximum tolerable levels set by, MAFF (1992) and EC (1986) except Cd.
