Effects of Nitrogen Fertilization and Foliar Application of Nano Capsules on Wheat Productivity and Quality

Abstract
The extensive use of chemical fertilizers is responsible for numerous environmental problems, including low food quality, soil degradation and toxicity to beneficial living organisms in the soil. Nanotechnology, as an eco-friendly technology, is becoming increasingly important in modern farm applications as an alternative to traditional fertilizers. The development of nano-fertilizers (NFs) presents a promising solution to these challenges, offering a more efficient and sustainable approach to nutrient management in agriculture. So, two field experiments were conducted during the winter seasons of 2022/23 and 2023/24 in El-Sarw City, located in the El-Zarka district of Damietta Governorate, Egypt, aiming to focus on the effectiveness of applying small amounts of NFs alongside conventional nitrogen. The objective was to evaluate the impact of these applications on grain yield, yield components, and protein content of wheat (Triticum aestivum L.). The design of experiment employed a randomized complete block design. The combination of 100% NRD and 0.6 g/L moringa nano capsules achieved. The highest yields were observed for grain, straw, biological factors, and the harvest index. making it the most effective treatment for maximizing productivity. However, the 50% NRD + 0.6 g/L moringa nano capsules treatment demonstrated significant improvements in grain quality, including higher chlorophyll and carotenoid levels during the booting stage, as well as increased grain protein content and carbohydrate accumulation at harvest. This suggests that 50% NRD + 0.6 g/L moringa nano capsules are a more sustainable option for reducing nitrogen fertilizer use while maintaining high productivity and grain quality, thereby promoting environmental conservation.
